Basement Homes in Charlotte NC Area | Sardis Plantation Home for Sale in Matthews
If you’ve lived in the Charlotte area for at least one year, you likely know that Midwesterners and Northerners love their basements! They are often surprised to find that when they come to the Queen City to buy a new home, homes with basements are not plentiful here. While we do have them, many of the homes in the older neighborhoods such as Dilworth, Elizabeth, Midwood, Myers Park, Eastover, Cotswold, and even Uptown, have ‘basements’ that are truly only cellars. These cellars were originally designed to house the old coal furnaces and are quite primitive, small and generally have very low ceilings.
So, if you’re a basement lover, you will find the highest concentration of basement homes in our lake communities of Lake Norman, Lake Wylie and Mountain Island Lake. These areas have many new and expansive water front homes that offer large walkout or daylight basements.
The rolling topography in some of the southern parts of Charlotte (Mecklenburg and Union Counties) are also suitable for basement homes, including Matthews, and have been heavily developed since the early eighties. Developers take advantage of these hilly sites and build new homes that offer walk-out basements for additional bedrooms, media rooms, in-laws suites and garages.
One basement home that is now available in Sardis Plantation (Matthews) comes to mind when I think of affordable, immaculate and in a community with walking trails, tennis courts and a lovely park, is the home at 434 Walnut Point Drive Matthews NC. Check out the virtual tour of this basement home in Sardis Plantation which is located in a highly desirable school zone in prime South Charlotte.
