According to the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, Convergys is planning to fill 1,600 new positions at its two call centers in Charlotte NC. The average full-time pay will be in the $21,000/year range and include benefits. Most of the positions available are entry-level customer-support positions who will be managing calls for large Fortune 500 companies.
“They have to know how to use a computer,” Lewis said, “be PC-literate. They have to speak well. Good grammar is very important over the phone. I would also say– some ability to sell.”

The Charlotte Chamber of Commerce said that currently there are nearly 50 call centers in Mecklenburg County, employing more than 13,000 staff. Chamber officials say the industry has been growing in recent years, with 0ver 3,000 call-center jobs announced since 2010, with Wednesday’s announcement bringing the total it to over 4,600 in just over three years. Charlotte Chamber President Bob Morgan said that this is encouraging news for our area.
