Basement Homes in Charlotte NC Area
If you’ve lived in the Charlotte area for any length of time at all, you likely know that Midwesterners and Northerners love their basements! Those relocating to the area are often surprised to find that homes with basements in Charlotte NC are not that plentiful.
While we do have homes with basements in Charlotte NC, many of the homes in the older neighborhoods such as Dilworth, Elizabeth, Midwood, Myers Park, Eastover, Cotswold, and even Uptown, have ‘basements’ that can only be used as cellars. These cellars were originally designed to house the old coal furnaces and are quite primitive, small and generally have very low ceilings. This eliminates many of the historic areas from the search for a basement in Charlotte.
If you’re a basement lover, you will, however, find a good number of basement homes in our lake communities of Lake Norman, Lake Wylie and Mountain Island Lake. These areas have many new and expansive water front homes that offer large walkout or daylight basements.
The rolling topography in some of the southern parts of Charlotte (Mecklenburg and Union Counties) are also suitable for basement homes. Matthews is one area that has a higher concentration of homes with basements in the Charlotte NC area, as many of the areas that have been heavily developed since the early eighties do. Developers took advantage of these hilly sites to build new homes that offer walk-out basements for additional bedrooms, media rooms, in-laws suites and garages.
If you’re moving to Charlotte or are already here, and love your basement homes, we’re happy to assist you in your search for homes for sale with basements in Charlotte.
