First Ward
Charlotte Uptown’s First Ward community is an award-winning mixed income district that was recently revitalized through a $41.6 million HUD HOPE VI grant. First Ward is home to about 1,000 residents as well as the Spirit Square Arts Center, Imaginon, Charlotte Bobcats Arena, Levine Museum of the New South, and the Mint Museum of Craft + Design. Second Ward
Charlotte’s Second Ward is located in the southeast quad of center city Charlotte, bordered by Trade and Tryon Street and the I-277 highway loop. Today the Second Ward is known as “the government district”. In recent years, however, the Second Ward has undergoing a surge in exciting new residential, entertainment and commercial growth. The Second Ward in Uptown Charlotte now features several up-scale condominium residences, a new mega-entertainment district called EpiCentre, and is the home of Charlotte’s new NASCAR Hall of Fame, and a new convention center. Third Ward
Charlotte’s Third Ward is the most diverse of the city’s four original quadrants. It includes a sports and entertainment area focused on Bank of America Stadium and a planned AAA baseball stadium with a 5-acre park. Residential neighborhoods are a mix of single-family homes, apartments and condominiums, with dozens of new developments planned, under construction and nearing completion.
Fourth Ward
Historic Fourth Ward is comprised of the the northwest quadrant of Charlotte’s Uptown area which was resurrected in the mid-1800s and was one of the more prosperous areas of town, providing homes to local merchants, physicians and ministers. The First Methodist, First Presbyterian, and St. Peters Episcopal Churches are all part of the Historic Fourth Ward and by the 1900′s, became nearly desolate as many residents moved to the ‘suburbs’ of Dilworth and Myers Park.
