The Arboretum Area
At the intersection of Providence Road (Hwy 16) and NC Highway 51, the Arboretum covers the four intersecting corners. The Arboretum houses a large shopping center on one corner which was built in the 1980′s and features great restaurants, movie theaters, a grocery store, coffee shops, book stores, fast food restaurants and home furnishing stores. Many of the local communities, which were built around the shopping center in the mid 1980′s and 2000′s are prime Charlotte real estate and highly sought after for those relocating to Charlotte NC. Ballantyne
Ballantyne, sprung from farmland in the early 1990’s, spans 2,000 acres across Mecklenburg County’s southern tip. Ballantyne was originally owned and later, developed by the Bissell/Harris family who also developed one of Charlotte’s most popular live/work communities, SouthPark, and continues to grow. Blakeney
Blakeney is a master planned, 300-acre development, just south of I-485 at Rea and Ardrey Kell Roads in southeast Charlotte. Blakeney is located just outside Ballantyne and is often classified as Ballantyne. Blakeney is a new development which houses the upscale, Blakeney Shopping Center, featuring restaurants, hip outdoor cafes, retail shops, apartments and office parks. Matthews
Matthews NC began as a small farming community in the 1800s. Cotton farmers cleared the land for new plantings, leaving tree stumps in all directions; thus, the first name for the community became known as “Stumptown”. The history of Matthews runs deep, but most of the town’s 25,000 residents have relocated to Matthews in the past decade, attracted by affordable homes in beautiful new subdivisions, strong schools, lower taxes (which are currently very similar to Mecklenburg County’s tax rate) and the historic, pedestrian-friendly downtown. Pineville
The small town of Pineville is known best as a shopping hub. Home to Carolina Place Mall, major big-box retailers and dozens of other shops, Pineville NC has 8 million square feet of retail space- or about 1,000 square feet for each of the town’s roughly 6,500 residents. The homes in Pineville rest in southern Mecklenburg County, NC which is located between Charlotte and York County, South Carolina. SouthPark
