Red, White & Panther Blue – Giving with Heart
Imagine a school with colors of red & white becoming a sea of Panther Blue during the first pep rally of the year! Well, that’s exactly what happened when Thomasboro Academy was paid a visit by Sir Pur and the Carolina Panthers’ new owner, David Tepper.
“Just like our football players need equipment, you guys need equipment,” said Tepper. “We want to support you. So we brought backpacks filled with classroom supplies for all of you.”
The donation is part of a larger campaign organized by Tepper’s foundation and Classroom Central. In all, the campaign will donate 12,000 backpacks to more than 17 area schools.
Following the pep rally, Tepper visited classrooms to distribute the backpacks. They were filled with crayons, notebooks, paper, pencils, pencil sharpeners and other school supplies.
Equipping the students with backpacks and supplies takes quite a burden off parents and teachers and with Thomasboro students’ 100% being reduced/free lunches, the need is substantial. Thanks to The David Tepper Charitable Foundation, John M. Belk Endowment, Classroom Central and a number of the players’ own foundations, the Thomasboro students and over 11,000 other students across the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School district will be starting off the year, equipped for success.
Thank you, David Tepper, for bringing your passion for giving to Charlotte. We appreciate you more than you know!
