Historic Fourth Ward is located within the northwest quadrant of Charlotte’s Uptown area which was resurrected in the mid-1800s and was one of the more prosperous areas of town, providing homes to local merchants, physicians and ministers. The First Methodist, First Presbyterian, and St. Peters Episcopal Churches are all part of the Historic Fourth Ward and by the 1900’s, became nearly desolate as many residents moved to the ‘suburbs’ of Dilworth and Myers Park.
Many of the beautiful Victorian homes were either destroyed or became commercial buildings and by 1970, Fourth Ward had fallen into a state of neglect. The late 20th century brought restoration to Fourth Ward which is now a thriving part of Charlotte’s Uptown.
History abounds at every corner in Fourth Ward and even new construction just keeps going vertical in Charlotte NC’s Uptown Fourth Ward area!
