Charlotte Metro Region Schools – Which Are Best for YOU?

I get this question all the time with those relocating to the area. Of course, we cannot answer that question but, I can tell you that for several years, our residents in Mecklenburg County migrated to the suburbs – some for schools, others for larger lot sizes and the desire to live in a more rural atmosphere. Schools have changed with the times and quite often, there is another announcement of re-districting of the schools, upsetting some homeowners’ apple carts.

Home values are impacted with redistricting so, homebuyers are always concerned about the schools, regardless of their familial situation. Most seasoned homebuyers purchase due to lifestyle – schools being a very close second only to their lifestyle needs.

I recently assisted a family who had moved to the suburbs for the schools, relocate back to the city – “The hour and a half commute was cutting into my family time. I feel that parental involvement in schools AND with our children, is what is important. If I’m driving 3 hours out of my day, I’m missing that involvement that is crucial to my children…and, of course, my wife.”

From a personal standpoint, I’ve also lived in the suburbs – moving closer into town during the last year and having the luxury of popping home during the day for lunch if I choose, arriving home earlier in the evening and having to leave home later in the morning has been a tremendous lifestyle change for me. That doesn’t mean it’s right for everyone because some prefer the driving time to unwind or may simply prefer the suburban life. Thankfully for us, we can have it either way here in the Metro region!

The latest data on North Carolina schools are below. There are 3 Mecklenburg County elementary schools in the TOP 10 (5 in the top 20) in North Carolina and 3 Union County schools in the TOP 20. According to this data, either of the school systems looks like a great choice, considering there are 100 counties competing for these top 20 spots!
