Plaza Midwood is full of rich history yet, urban and hip. Established in the early 1900’s, Midwood was developed along the trolley line that ran from Charlotte’s then, Downtown, along Central Avenue. Suffering during the 60’s and 70’s, in serious decline, concerned residents established the Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association. The community began to be refurbished and residents worked diligently to improve the appearance of the area and revitalized Plaza Midwood in style.
The community is now filled with not only older, quaint cottages but, craftsman-stye bungalows and new construction with replicas that are simply gorgeous. You can’t drive through Midwood without seeing neighbors out biking, walking, jogging or beautifying the landscape in the community.
The Van Landingham Estate is the centerpiece of this community. The gardens surrounding the gorgeous Southern mansion are simply breathtaking. Weddings, business meetings and lavish parties are held at the Van Landingham Estate.
Some of Charlotte’s coolest hot spots are right in here in Midwood. There are many unique shops in the Central business district including hip furniture shops and lots of interesting art and clothing boutiques. There is a barber shop, public library, local grocer, post office and even a self-serve doggie wash, ‘You Dirty Dog!’
Midwood’s popularity continues to grow as it’s shops, restaurants and bars, thrive. Nova Bakery is a must-visit when you’re in the Midwood area! And, you won’t want to miss one of Charlotte’s most popular restaurants, The Pinguin, also located in the Midwood area. If you love Southern dishes, you’ll LOVE their chicken and dumplings. You must try their deviled eggs and fried pickles too! And their Southern style Hemi Burger is to die for!
