More Great News for Charlotte – ACC Football Championship Games will be Held Here Through 2030
The revision of HB2 not only brought great news for Charlotte with the return of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Football Championship Game in December (2017). More great news was announced today; another sign that big-ticket sporting events and economic development are returning to Charlotte and the entire state of NC.
Today, the ACC announced signing of a 10-year extension for the ACC Football Championship Games. The current contract is through December, 2020 but, the extension signed today, takes the games through 2030 – great news for Charlotte!
It just makes sense to hold the games in Charlotte as we are a metropolis that can handle the tens of thousands of attendees/guests. As well, all 15 ACC school locations have direct flights to Charlotte Douglas International Airport. For those driving to the games, Charlotte is within 300 miles of eight of the ACC schools also. In fact, Charlotte is in the middle of the ACC schools.
2016’s relocation to Orlando, Florida was disastrous for the city and the conference as the game attracted the fewest in attendance in the championship’s 12-year history.
Charlotte is looking forward to filling city’s hotel rooms and vendors & shops packing another estimated $40M for the weekend in December for the next 12 years…at least!
