365 Things to Do & Places to Go | Charlotte Knights – BB&T Ballpark

BB&T Ballpark
BB&T Ballpark

In 1987, George Shinn, also the founder of the NBA Charlotte Hornets, bought the minor league team from the Crockett family. Shinn committed to building a permanent home for the team and in 1988, the team, formerly known as the Charlotte Orioles(a 2-A Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) was re-named the Charlotte Knights.

Crocket Park, with a ‘make-shift’ stadium was soon outgrown and as Shinn affiliated with the Chicago Cubs, a new stadium was in the works. Fort Mill, SC became home to the Charlotte Knights in 1989 with a brand new 8,000-seat stadium, named Knights Stadium.

Before the 1997 season, Shinn sold the Knights to North Carolina businessman Don Beaver, who then affiliated with 3-A Affiliate, Chicago White Sox.

In 2011, a land-swap deal was made by the Charlotte City Council & The Mecklenburg County Commission that brought about the construction of a brand new, $54M stadium, right in the heart of Uptown Charlotte. The first game was held in the new BB&T Ballpark April 11, 2014. The new 10,200 seating capacity stadium includes 945 club seats and 22 luxury suites. The skyline views from the ballpark are INCREDIBLE and, the BB&T Ballpark is the most visited venue in Minor League Baseball!

If you haven’t been to the ballpark, you’re in for a real treat! The Knights will open their sixth season at BB&T Ballpark against the Durham Bulls (3-A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) on Thursday, April 4th at 7:04PM

Charlotte Area Farmers Markets – Savoring Local Produce, Supporting Local Farmers

Charlotte Area Farmers Markets – Savoring Local Produce, Supporting Local Farmers

Charlotte Area Farmers Markets are a big hit this time of year and we are so thankful for a great climate that allows our local farmers to build fruitful businesses (okay, maybe a little pun there)! Charlotteans simply can’t get over the beautiful weather (including the delayed summer heat and all of the glorious rain), the blooms, and the Carolina blue skies this year. Because of the wonderful weather, lots of area farmers markets continue to yield delightful summer produce. The local vegetables have been ever-so fresh and the South Carolina peaches have been divine this year as well!

Farmers Markets in Charlotte NC

What better way is there to celebrate summer, than to grab some farm-fresh, LOCAL fruits, veggies and flowers? Here is a list of some great markets in all our favorite parts of town.

After my Closing on Friday, I stopped at the Kings Drive Farmers Market to grab a fresh cantaloupe, organic eggs, squash, broccolini, peaches, watermelon and some fresh scallops from my favorite fisherman vendor at the markets! He didn’t have scallops when my husband & I were by there on Tuesday so, we were happy to see them on Friday.

Don’t you just love a good farmers market?

Charlotte Loves Houston – FRIDAY, SEPT 8 – 10AM – 2PM

We have all heard the news and have been seeing the horrifying images from Houston – wondering what we can do to help. What began with one of our Charlotte residents offering their semi-truck to deliver donations directly to Houston, has grown into an event for the city of Charlotte to show we care.

Charlotte Loves Houston
The Charlotte Loves Houston event is happening this Friday and we need your help. Together with a growing list of business partners, Charlotte Loves Houston is now going to be driving multiple semi-trucks across the country to help those affected by the flooding.

Join us on Friday, September 8th at SouthPark Mall as we fill up as many trucks as we can to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey and show Houston they are not alone…Charlotte is sending some love.

When: Friday, September 8
10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Where: SouthPark Mall (Main Entrance off of Sharon Road)
4400 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC 28211

Please bring the following supplies to SouthPark Mall on Friday:

  • Bottled Water
  • Baby Food
  • Baby Formula
  • Diapers / baby wipes
  • First Aid / Medical supplies
  • Toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, tampons, soap, antibacterial hand sanitizer)
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Batteries
  • Paper towels
  • Toilet Paper
  • Canned Food
  • Non-perishable snacks (granola bars, breakfast bars, fruit cups, peanut butter, tuna)
  • Pet Food
  • Cleaning Supplies (Trash Bags, dust masks, packing tape, masking tape, work gloves)
  • Bug Spray

Charlotte Loves Houston SouthPark Event

For more information click here to visit CharlotteLovesHouston.com

No time to drop off supplies? You can also donate to the cause by clicking at the Charlotte Loves Houston GoFundMe page.

Let us know if you have any questions! We are happy to work with you to collect and pick up items you may have as well. Just call (704) 491-3310 and one of us will happily schedule a pick-up for you if you aren’t able to get to the mall on Friday.

Let’s show Houston we CARE!  Thank you in advance for your help and generous donations!

Charlotte Events – Quail Hollow Club Welcomes the World Next Week – PGA Championship 2017

Charlotte Events – Quail Hollow Club Welcomes the World Next Week – PGA Championship 2017

Quail Hollow Club PGA Championship Charlotte NC 2017The PGA Championship tees off next week (8/7-8/13) at Quail Hollow Club, putting Charlotte and North Carolina back in the national spotlight. A high-profile tourist event, for the first time in over a year, will be absent any HB2 controversy. The much anticipated, record-breaking, advanced sales reflect the prospect of a highly successful PGA Championship for 2017, putting the area’s tourism in a stronger position than pre-HB2. Both the PGA of America and local officials project that the tournament will provide an additional $100M to the Charlotte economy.

Over the past 20 years, Quail Hollow Club has transformed from a quiet to non-existent PGA tour stop, to now, one of the PGA’s major championship events – in fact, one of the top four. The Wachovia Championship (now known as the Wells Fargo Championship) started in 2003 with galleries as large as 35,000.

The Quail Hollow Club has set the bar for the elite in PGA championship events, becoming a model for other tournaments. Admired for its hospitality and perks for players, caddies and guests, from Mercedes-Benz courtesy cars to locker room laundry service, the Quail Hollow Club does hosting right.

We hope you’ll be enjoying this event in Charlotte this week, at least one day of it! For more information on the tournament, running August 7th through 13th, visit the PGA spectator information page here. Pre-tournament shops grand-opening is being held this weekend (details here).

PARKING FOR THE TOURNAMENT

Shuttle pick ups and light rail stops for PGA tournament LYNX for Tournament

PGA TOURNAMENT PARKING PLAN AHEAD

***Please note – You have many parking options for the tournament so, be sure to PLAN AHEAD! You will note in my neighborhood and several other SouthPark neighborhoods surrounding the course, NO PARKING signs are posted. Each and every year, tournament-goers ignore the signs, leave for the tournament for the day, only to find their cars towed. Don’t fall prey to quickly parking in front of a residential home, leaving your car and walking to the tournament. Your car will be towed – that’s a guarantee!

You may purchase parking passes here.

Take the PGA fly-over tour of the course, boasting extensive renovations to the greens…

Visiting Charlotte, NC this week for the tournament? We think you’re going to love what you see! If you’re thinking of making Charlotte home, let’s talk! We’re happy to show you homes in the SouthPark/Quail Hollow area!  Call or text (704) 491-3310 or email us at Info@GoogleCharlotte.com
