Restaurant Review – Nana’s Soul Food Kitchen
Restaurant Review - Nana's Soul Food Kitchen Dear friends arrived in Charlotte this evening and after checking into their hotel near the west side of Charlotte, my husband and I suggested meeting at Nana's Soul Food Kitchen. The restaurant is known for their delicious fired catfish and chicken and their collard greens but, we've never heard a negative thing about the place or any of the dishes served. The four of us had a variety of dishes and no one had one single complaint - in fact, it's some of the best food you'll eat! The ambiance was much like a cafeteria/diner - very casual and the … Continue reading...

Hurricane Preparedness – Is Florence Going to Show Her Face in Charlotte? Another Hugo Perhaps?
Is Florence Going to Show Her Face in Charlotte? Another Hugo Perhaps? September 22, 1989 - Hurricane Hugo, the storm by which all other storms are measured here in Charlotte. Being 150 miles inland, we never thought it possible to be faced with the level of destruction we experienced, nor the costs of $9-Billion to clean-up and repair/replace. During the disaster, Charlotte reported sustained winds of 69 mph and gusts up to 99 mph, causing tremendous destruction to a region that virtually never sees such impacts from a tropical system, especially a hurricane. Some were without power for more … Continue reading...
Red, White & Panther Blue – Giving with Heart
Red, White & Panther Blue - Giving with Heart Imagine a school with colors of red & white becoming a sea of Panther Blue during the first pep rally of the year! Well, that’s exactly what happened when Thomasboro Academy was paid a visit by Sir Pur and the Carolina Panthers’ new owner, David Tepper. “Just like our football players need equipment, you guys need equipment,” said Tepper. “We want to support you. So we brought backpacks filled with classroom supplies for all of you.” The donation is part of a larger campaign organized by Tepper’s foundation and Classroom Central. In all, … Continue reading...

Charlotte Area Farmers Markets – Savoring Local Produce, Supporting Local Farmers
Charlotte Area Farmers Markets - Savoring Local Produce, Supporting Local Farmers Charlotte Area Farmers Markets are a big hit this time of year and we are so thankful for a great climate that allows our local farmers to build fruitful businesses (okay, maybe a little pun there)! Charlotteans simply can't get over the beautiful weather (including the delayed summer heat and all of the glorious rain), the blooms, and the Carolina blue skies this year. Because of the wonderful weather, lots of area farmers markets continue to yield delightful summer produce. The local vegetables have been … Continue reading...
Scooter Sharing in Charlotte
Scooter Sharing in Charlotte First, it was dock-less rental bikes. Now, it's motorized two-wheeled scooters from Bird, Lime and Spin. They're appearing under a pilot program that's running parallel to the dock-less bike trial that is already underway and has been a bit hit for in-town Charlotte residents thus far. Showing property in Uptown this week, I found them all over the place! Most were in use and most were following the safety (with the exception of using helmets) and parking guidelines. This is a new and exciting 'spin' on Charlotte transportation - just another jewel in the Queen … Continue reading...
